A month ago, a reader (Barbara R.) wondered why we never treat our hometowns as if we were visiting them for the first time. How we don’t do the sorts of things we do on holiday, but at home. This comment lingered, and since I’ve returned from my long journey, I’m making every attempt to see my city, the place in which I grew up, as if I’m encountering it for the first time. Over the next few weeks I’ll be posting photos from spots I’m rediscovering, or like The Cloisters, places I’m visiting for the first time. Here’s my attempt to fall back in love with my city all over again. I hope you’ll hop along for the ride.

  1. And now you are reminding me that I have to do the same thing! I haven’t been to the Cloisters in so long and I so enjoyed your photos. Yay you, yay me!

  2. I love the Cloisters. Used to visit during herb season and take NYC visitors there for a completely different take on the Big Apple. Thanks for sharing the lovely photos.

  3. Thanks for sharing the photos and showing some love to my neighborhood:-)! I moved to the area last year and love hiking up to The Cloisters and through the park. The views are amazing up there. There’s also a great little restaurant nestled within the park. The Washington Heights/Inwood area is going through a revitalizing and some cool spots are popping up.
